Orbit turntable upgrade#
Another upgrade to consider is springing for the acrylic platter. For those that don’t have a steady hand to drop the stylus right where you want it, the Orbit comes with a cue lever as an add-on. It does come with a built-in phono preamp.
The turntable is belt driven, so there’s not a lot of superfluous technology involved here. There, a bronze bushing with two Teflon inserts keep the platter spinning smoothly with almost no noise whatsoever.
The shaft of the bearing is anchored to the base and points up for the inner platter to sit on. For the plinth, U-Turn headed out to Minnesota to find the right manufacturer. It also has a built-in anti-skate feature, and you can adjust the tracking force. The tonearm is virtually friction-free and it has essentially eliminated wobble. You can choose from five different colours, or you also have the option of requesting a custom Orbit in maple or walnut. That doesn’t mean you don’t have options, though. Like all their turntables, U-Turn used the same tonearm that they always use to put together the Orbit Plus.
